One of your recruitment consultants hands in her notice. She works on one of your most profitable desks. You need the position filled by someone with experience in the relevant sector but you don’t have the time to headhunt yourself, her desk can be covered for now but you need someone in ASAP.
You decide to put a call in to a couple of Recruitment to Recruitment Agencies, they take a brief job spec from you and tell you their rates, they sound pretty cheap so why not, let’s see what they come up with.
Within a week you have 15 CVs from 3 Rec2Rec’s, 10 are irrelevant, you explained that the consultant must have relevant experience so why are you being sent candidates that have worked different sectors, have less than a years experience in Recruitment or are just completely wrong? Anyway, you take the time out of your day to look at the other 5, out of those you find 3 that look alright and are worth interviewing so you call up the Rec2Recs and arrange interviews.
The week after you arrange to meet all 3 candidates. None have been met previously by the Rec2Recs as they’re not local and out of those 2 turn up. You ask them how the Rec2Recs found them and they both reply that they just responded to an advert on a well known job board. You wonder why you didn’t just post an advert yourself. One is good but just not a right culture fit for your team, the Rec2Rec would have known this if they’d have just been to meet you or probed a bit deeper. You always try to meet all your clients for this exact reason, why didn’t the Rec2Rec ask?
Candidate #2 seems very strong, he can talk the talk, his figures that he quoted seem very good, seems like he could fit into the team. In week 3 candidate #2 comes back in to meet the team and his manager. All still goes well and you prepare to make an offer. You call the Rec2Rec and ask for his references, these haven’t been done yet but they’ll get back to you, a few hours later it turns out that Candidate #2s figures don’t stack up, nor do his dates of employment. You now have 2 choices, take a huge risk on a candidate who has bad references and pay for someone you could have sourced yourself or start all over again – Time is ticking now and your once warm desk is starting to lose steam.
So how do we do things differently?
A) One of the most important differences between us and your generic Rec2Rec is how our candidates are sourced. We will NOT post your job on job boards unless you specifically feel that this will add value to our service. We don’t believe in hit and hope. All our candidates are headhunted to your business needs. Are you looking for an experienced Senior Finance Consultant? Then we will find one either from our pool of local candidates that we keep in regular contact with or we will headhunt top performers from your competitors. We will sell you as a business to our candidates who are suitable so you know that the reason they will come for an interview is because they want to work for you, not just because they want a job.
B) We don’t have the same candidate pool as 95% of other Rec2Recs – In reference to point A, because of the way we source our candidates, we are accessing people before they are on the market, and the people that you actually want to employ.
C) We meet all of our candidates – On the rare occasion where it’s impossible and we have to work in an area far from where we are based, the absolute minimum standard is that we will conduct a lengthy video call under interview circumstances as well as our standard pre-screening procedures.
D) We reference and pre-screen our candidates at length – No more surprises, all our candidates are referenced and spoken to at length, there’s no “does this job sound ok? Can I send your CV”.
E) We strive to meet all of our clients – We understand that it’s not always possible for clients to meet us at short notice but at the very least we need to speak in length about what the personality fit for you team is.
F) We work for you – Working with us is similar to having an in-house recruiter, we will make sure we understand your business. Do you prefer email to phone calls because you’re too busy? Do you need to speak to us outside business hours? Is your hire confidential? These are all things we can cater to as a family run business.
